In Sept 2020 the main source for FFmpeg Shared builds (zeranoe) shut down. I’m making this post to spread the word about where you can find the right version of FFmpeg to use with REAPER.
Ground Control is a free virtual audio cable app for Mac that allows you to route audio from one app to another, and comes with a monitor control interface. It’s similar to the discontinued SoundFlower, in most use cases, but with the ability to monitor as a bonus. And its compatible with the latest macs. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. Because the Reaper Forum are useless! Just bought a Mac Mini (M1 chip), loaded up reaper and cannot get signal on the meter of an armed track. Google led me to a few posts about mic privacy and security and granting Reaper access to the microphone. I have an RME babyface and Axe FX III, but don't have a mic to prompt Reaper to request access. At this time the best version for reaper seems to be on the archive of the Zeranoe site. Download the v4.3.1 ‘Shared’ version. Extract the Zip Open the ‘Bin’ folder. Copy the.dll files and paste to REAPER’s UserPlugins Folder C: Users username AppData Roaming REAPER UserPlugins FFmpeg for Mac.
Please note – If you already have FFmpeg in your REAPER UserPlugins folder, there is no need to download again.
Why FFmpeg for REAPER?
REAPER comes with a limited version of FFmpeg for audio/video decoding (playback) and encoding (rendering). By adding the full version of FFmpeg to REAPER we can expand the import and export file type options. This is especially important for rendering H.264 MP4 video files on Windows.
