360 Gearboxes & Diffs is the largest dedicated Manual Gearbox workshop in Australia for cars, stocking over 1,000 gearboxes. We have re-built thousands of gearboxes, transfers and differentials so are experts in our field. Our diagnosis of faults is exceptional given this is what we do every day. We have designed various solutions in-house to strengthen and lengthen the lifespan of gearboxes and are the original designers of the TOWPACK® series which comes with up to a 24mth unlimited kilometre warranty.

Do not waste your time with copycats or suppliers who won’t provide an OEM equivalent warranty (12 mths). A 3-month warranty for a supposed “reconditioned” item is a joke!

Quality of workmanship is of utmost importance to us and we strive for perfection. We only use top quality parts and do the job properly, building our products to last. All of our items are fully disassembled, hotwashed and inspected to ensure they are in rebuildable condition. We do NOT weld shafts together, nor reuse worn, secondhand parts. Brian McLellan started 360 Gearboxes & Diffs Pty Ltd in 2006, determined to build his business based on honesty, integrity and quality.

The trade sought Brian out for his analytical approach to problem solving and soon it was clear he needed someone to run the business whilst he concentrated on rebuilding and Research & Development.

Brian’s wife Jacqui joined 360 in 2008 and it was evident very quickly that this was a positive move……the Business grew so fast that by 2011 they moved to a larger workshop.

In May 2012, 360 acquired Japanese Gearbox Wholesalers. They did not stop there, later purchasing All Wheel Drive Gearbox Reconditioners in Malvern, making 360 the largest dedicated manual gearbox car workshop in Australia.

2017 saw 360 experience a 40% growth which required yet another move into a larger premises in January 2019.

Brian has designed a number of proprietary TOWPACK™ upgrades for over 40 types of Gearboxes. These designs have been trademarked and registered so that you can be confident you are dealing with the original designer and not copycats. 360 Gearboxes & Diffs are the LEADERS & EXPERTS in their field.

Have had our old club sport VX diff, truck gearbox and now a diff in my Pajero. These guys are just fantastic with both communication and the work they do. Jackie is the best. She knows her product and how to treat people. I recommend these guys to everyone.

I brought a Triton ML 5 speed last week. Receive nothing but excellent service. They were very helpful with there information and on the day of pick up were very helpful as the driver who was picking up the gearbox was running late. My mechanic rang up for some information and once again very helpful. I read the reviews before i purchased and i can agree with 360 gearbox as i work in the automotive trade to, unfortunately there are some dodgy people in the trade but as a whole we and good at what we do. As long as you follow 360 gearboxes instructions and replace the components correctly i don’t see why you should have a problem. Thank you once again for your help.

6-speed transmission gives you two (count 'em 2) overdrive gears. Or some have a close ratio direct-5th with overdrive, which is better for performance. 6-speeds can be modified to fit Datsun 1200. Just cut the bellhousing and weld on a fragment of A-series bell housing, then machine the input shaft smaller.

The basic Aisin AZ6 gearbox was made in several versions, with front cases for these engines:

  • Nissan FS6R31A for VQ35 (source: Z33)
  • Nissan FS6R92A for VQ35 (source: G35) 130 lbs weight

  • Mazda Renesys (RX8 rotary)
  • Mazda Y16M-D F & B (1999-2005 MX-5)
  • Toyota J160 for 1G & 3S (E10 Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS200)

A limited run was produced of custom front cases for Toyota T-50 bellhousing, so with this gearbox a Dellow kit might work to mate it to the A-series engine.

But other wise, use the Cut-n-Shut method.

Nissan RWD six-speed is plentiful in wrecking yards and inexpensive new ($1800) or used ($900). Use an adapter plate and bob's your uncle. Reportedly 3x stronger than an SR20DET 5-speed. It is a true direct-fifth gearbox + overdrive.

The 1999-2002 Nissan Silvia S15 Strawberry with SR20DE/SR20DET had an optional close-ratio 5-speed + overdrive (6 forward speeds total). In AUS, the six-speed was in the Nissan 200SX Spec-R model.

  • Close ratio 1-5, with overdrive 6th. It is perhaps the best ratios for an A-series engine

  • used on L, Z, VG, VQ, SR, KA, and CD engines (same as 71C bushing)
  • Pilot Bushing Inside Diameter: 0.626 to .6300' (Length: .689')
  • Pilot Bushing Outside Diameter: .814 to .815'

Since this is much larger in diamter than the A-series, machining is needed.

A-series crankshaft bore is for a bushing with 0.671' O.D., length .723'

  • The FS6R92A input shaft end can be turned down to ~.671 O.D.
  • Could the A-series crank pilot hole be bored out to .814' so the 71-Series bush can be fitted?

Use a generic crossmember to fit a 6-speed.

Propeller Shaft

The 6-speed overall length is greater than a stumpy gearbox, but not as long as a a longtail Nissan transmission.
